  Winery estate
The winery estate Il Palagio is located in the heart of Tuscany - more precisely, in the zone of Chianti called Chianti Classico, in the well-known Conca D'oro ("golden valley"), an area famous throughout the world for its beautiful landscapes, and in particular for its wonderful wine and olive oil.

It's a region made up of unique characteristics that are rarely found all together and which are virtually impossible to recreate: good sunlight, climate and conditions throughout most of the year and great soil. With work and care the vineyards and olive groves produce the best quality grapes for wine, and olives for oil.
Dario Piccini bought Il Palagio and the surrounding land in the 1970s, and began to manage the business with great wisdom and care.
As noted in the "Atlas of Chianti Classico" (Enrico Bosi - Sansoni) printed in November 1972, Dario Piccini's Il Palagio "produces in small quantities a wine that is appreciated and sought after by collectors. In total, only seven hectares have been planted, between vines and olive trees."
Today Il Palagio is still run by the Piccini family, and has a total of around 13 hectares of land, of which three and a half hectares are planted with olive trees and the rest with selected grape vines. In recent years the oldest vines have been replanted with an eye to always making the best possible wine in future.
Some of the vines are planted in the Conca D'Oro and some in an area called San Martino. The vines located in the Conca D'oro have been replanted with Sangiovese. Vines were replanted in San Martino in 2000 and 2004 - partly with Sangiovese and partly with Merlot. The new vines were planted with much care and attention: a superb drainage system has been put in place and there are only 5500 plants per hectare.
The recently built cellar was carefully planned around the needs of the winemaking process. All the tanks are stainless steel, with a built-in temperature control system.
In the last few years, Winemaker Marco Chellini has taken the lead in winemaking at Il Palagio. His professionalism and skills have helped us to continue to grow and improve, year after year.
